The Marketing Checkup

Kathy Sanders MartinA Marketing Checkup is a way to take a critical look at current marketing practices and activities and provide ways to improve marketing results. A marketing checkup is designed to do two things:

    1. Find opportunities for the firm to attract and secure more of the right kind of clients

    2. Identify the firm’s marketing problem areas that are keeping the firm from attracting enough of the right kind of clients

The Marketing Checkup saves a company time and money and builds a strong competitive advantage. Organizations who use the information provided by the marketing checkup accomplish several things:

  • Marketing problems get prioritized by importance and in the order in which  they need to be addressed
  • Costly and wasteful marketing practices and activities are identified and are changed or dropped
  • Successful marketing practices are identified and built upon
  • Time and money is allocated wisely on marketing activities that have most positive impact

A Marketing Checkup appraises an organization’s performance in all major areas that affect marketing results. They include:

  • Choice of targeted customers/clients
  • Marketing objectives
  • The marketing environment that the company operates in
  • The competitive situation
  • Promotion practices
  • Sales practices
  • Marketing materials
  • Pricing
  • Marketing processes
  • The internal marketing organization

When the Marketing Checkup is complete, the client knows what’s working, what’s not working, what needs to be done about it. Click here to see how the 7-Step Marketing Checkup Process works.
